Last Friday night in Whelans saw the launch of Elly D’s impressive new single “Close”.
Singer-songwriter Elly D wowed the crowd with a stellar rendition of brand new track “Close”, as well as some gems from her back catalogue, namely “Lighthouse” & “Say”, her powerful voice evoking a range of different influences from Debbie Harry to Gemma Hayes. She diversified her sound by switching up her usual electro-acoustic to a sweet-sounding vintage electric guitar mid-way through the gig.
“Close”, a catchy upbeat electro-pop track whose thought-provoking lyrics hold more than just a hint of nostalgia while a synth beat provides an 80’s feel to the song, which wouldn’t sound out of place on a film soundtrack. This is a step away from Elly’s usual style but it works brilliantly, her amazing vocals entwining seamlessly with the electronic and vocal loop elements, resulting in a captivating listening experience.
“Close” will be available for download and to buy from July 9th
