Gypsies On The Autobahn – I Wanna Be Adored – (Stone Roses Cover)
Ahead of their headline show in The Button Factory this Friday, Gypsies On The Autobahn have released their cover of The Stone Roses’ track “I Wanna Be Adored”. The Dublin four-piece, whose opulently melancholic take on the Madchester classic, begins with a mellow piano sound, steadliy leading to a faster tempo, which is remarkably complemented by James Smiths’ lush vocals.
James spoke of the track “I heard the song for the first time in years in the car coming back from practice and couldn’t get it out of my head. I worked it out on piano and played it for the guys in the room. We experimented with it until we had something that felt like us. It was daunting taking on such an iconic song that defines an era in music but it was a lot of fun to do”.
The video features an aspiring but struggling musician, (played by David Crean) who goes on have his music noticed by a fan (played by James Smith), his devotion gets the attention of another person and he in turn gets his own fan (played by Dan Smith), subsequently the torch of adornment gets passed on. The story is interjected with everyday images which are beautifully shot.
Last month, Gypsies On The Autobahn released their single “Rubicon” which was well-reviewed, they have played Electric Picnic and have previously supported acts like The Coronas, Little Green Cars & The Academic.
