The last song you listened to?
The Monkees Theme – it was just on at work on RTE Gold! Such a pity that’s being closed down!
What is your earliest musical memory?
There would have been cassettes and vinyl about the house. I think we may even have used some of the records as frisbees … would probably be worth a fortune now
Do you have a favourite song that was featured in a film or TV show?
I discovered this song “Didn’t I” by Darondo watching Breaking Bad which works really well –
Is there a song that instantly reminds you of a particular person?
This reminds me of an old school friend –
Is there a song whose lyrics resonate with you and why so?
So Long Marianne by Leonard Cohen –
Every line is just so well written, every word perfectly chosen. There’s humour too – he’s not half as serious as people make out.
“Well, you know that I love to live with you
But you make me forget so very much
I forget to pray for the angels
And then the angels forget to pray for us”.
The band/musician that you grew up listening to?
I’ve always been a bit of a music nerd (some would say ‘music snob’) so have always listened to a lot of music.
Lots of Bowie, The Kinks, The Beatles, The Jam, The Beach Boys, The Doors, REM.
What song do you wish that you had written and why?
I’m always curious as to what makes a song become considered a “standard or a “classic” and why other really songs don’t quite make it. And it’s cool when something completely different comes along to what’s been before – and then becomes considered a classic. Maybe “Like a Rolling Stone” by Bob Dylan or “Once in a Lifetime” by Talking Heads
What song transports you back in time and why?
Yeah, lots. I played this song constantly on a trip to Portugal with friends a few years back so it always brings me back.
Which song makes you sad when you hear it?
This hits pretty hard – ” Everything you hated me for… Honey there was so much more I just didn’t get busted ”
Which song makes you happy when you hear it?
Stevie Wonder – Signed, Sealed Delivered (I’m Yours)
What was the first gig you went to?
First proper one was Tom Petty in The Point in the early 90s
What was the first song that you ever performed?
Probably one of our own about 10 yrs back.
What was the first album/single that you bought?
I was always into older stuff. Probably The Beatles or The Doors
Is there a song that you always listen to whilst travelling in the car or on the bus/train?
Not really – I listen to a lot of music. Went through a phase of listening to a lot of Van Morrison while driving.
Is there a particular song/band/singer that made you want to be a musician?
Probably John Lennon – just great songs, a great voice and he didn’t hold back. And there’s nothing cooler than being a Beatle!
