Songwriter, musician & produceer Joe Monaghan AKA Train Room on the soundtrack to his life
Hailing from Balla, Co. Mayo, Joe’s influences include Wilco and Neil Young, he has performed in Venues like The Workmans in Dublin, Róisín Dubh in Galway and the Hard Working Class Heroes festival.

The last song i listened to watch Silent Sigh by Badly Drawn Boy. Listening to alot of his old stuff lately
What is your earliest musical memory?
My earliest music memory is being at the bog with my older siblings and listening to Howard Jones ‘New song’ on a remote radio. Think i was around 5, and still love that song 🙂
Do you have a favourite song that was featured in a film or tv show?
Probably my favourite song would be ‘Black’ by Dangermouse & Norah jones which Breaking Bad used to finish season 4. Such a great fit for the scene.
Is there a song that instantly reminds you of a particular person?
Beck ‘ Loser’ always reminds me of my brother. Not that he’s a loser but he showed me that song round 1992 declaring beck a genius, i was a bit ‘meh’ at the time.
Is there a song whose lyrics resonate with you and why so?
One of my fav lyrics are ‘ the impossible is possible tonight’ from Smashing Pumpkins Tonight Tonight. Always feel that line uplifting.
The band/musician that you grew up listening to?
Michael Jackson when i was young. Around the bad album
What song do you wish that you had written and why?
Heart of gold – Neil young. prob my fav song of all time
What song transports you back in time and why?
Put em under pressure – Ireland world cup song 1990. Reminds me of the best times in the pub at 10 yrs old 🙂 great memory
Which song makes you sad when you hear it?
Flying Without Wings – Westlife. Always feel there are gonna fall out of the sky when they realise they have no wings
Which song makes you happy when you hear it?
Blur – Girls And Boys – brings back the teenage years
What was the first gig you went to?
First gig – Radiohead 1996 at Castlegar sport-ground Galway. Great gig
What was the first song that you ever performed?
Played an open mic in Sligo and played Neil Youngs song ‘ from hank to hendrix’ and absolutely murdered it. A truly terrifying experience ( for everyone)
What was the first album/single that you bought?
First Album Betty Boo -Boomania 1990 – Still love it
First single – Michael Jackson – Leave me alone
Is there a song that you always listen to whilst travelling in the car or on the bus/train ?
War On Drugs – Pain . Thats always a good travelling tune
Is there a particular song/band/singer that made you want to be a musician?
Probably when Oasis came out in 1994 i thought it would be cool to pick up the guitar 🙂
